Travertine Floor Cleaning
Travertine Floor Cleaning
A natural stone floor like a travertine floor is likely to create a prestigious look within your home or your office. A travertine floor is a type of marble floor that can come in different types of shapes, different colours and with different levels of porosity. A travertine floor is very visually pleasant, it is easy to maintain and if sealed and cleaned with proper natural stone floor cleaners and maintainers, is a floor for life. The travertine floors are very popular in Ireland and all over the world. A bit cheaper than the classic marble floors and also a bit cheaper to maintain and clean. The issue with all travertine floors and generally all natural stone floors is the fact that it is a natural product and from time to time, the pores of the floor will open up and start absorbing the dirt. The point of the polishing of all natural stone floors is to close the pores and reduce absorption. A highly polished natural stone floor is likely to be sealed and have very little porosity. Little porosity means that the liquids and the dirt will find it hard to penetrate and stain the surface. So if your beloved travertine floor has started looking old, dated, patchy and stained, you should consider calling Floor Cleaning Dublin and receive a free no obligation estimate for travertine floor polishing and travertine floor sealing.
Travertine Floor Cleaning I What Is Polishing
All natural stone floors that come from a quarry or some similar place, are extracted in big pieces that are then cut to size and slightly grinded to make them easier to store and transport. From there on the tiles are being brought to special cutting and polishing factories where the tiles are being polished with heavy duty equipment to create smoother finishes and low porosity. The level of sheen or gloss can vary dramatically from tile to tile and is based on the customer requirements. Some travertine tiles are sold ready polished to a mirror like effect while others are sold matt and unsealed allowing the owner to decide what way it will be polished and what level of gloss. After the initial polishing, the tile will be ready for the day to day traffic. As the floor is getting used on a daily basis, over a period of time, the tile will start losing some of the initial sheen and it will start absorbing dirt. To prevent such issues, the tile will require another polishing with some kind of diamond pads or a polishing powder to reseal the floor and close down all the absorbent pores. That is the polishing process.
Travertine Floor Cleaning I How Is The Polishing Done
The level of polishing required to restore a travertine tile is based on the condition of the floor and how often it is getting cleaned. If a travertine tile gets buffed regularly with a high speed floor buffer and is washed with proper natural stone maintainers, it could take many years before the floor will require another major polishing job done. But if the travertine tile is neglected, not treated with the right maintainers and allowed to absorb a lot of dirt, the polishing job will have to take place every 1-2 years.
Step 1: The floor will be deep cleaned with heavy duty natural stone floor cleaners to remove all impregnated dirt and to clean the grout lines. After the initial clean the floor cleaner can assess the travertine floor and decide what is the next step.
Step 2: The floor will be grinded with a number of diamond polishing pads to remove scratches, dull patches and discolorations. Depending on the level of sheen expected, the floor might be left in a satin finish after being polished with a fine diamond polishing pad
Step 3: If the customer is looking for a high gloss finish, the floor will be polished with marble polishing powder. The powder will create a high vitreous finish and it will slightly seal the surface. If the customer is looking for a natural finish, this step is not necessary
Step 4: The floor will be washed with a special mixture of natural soaps to waterproof and stain proof the surface. The surface of the stone will not be affected while the product will not create an artificial glazing. It allows the floor to ventilate naturally and it does not peel.
