Evans Cyclone Thick Bleach
Finding a good bleaching detergent has never been this easy, especially if you look in the right places. For an average consumer, it is rocket science trying to demystify the chemical composition and the range of disease causing organisms these bleaching detergents serve to eliminate. Therefore the market has the authentic, but often flooded with imitations. It’s time we bring the genuine to the spotlight.
Evans Cyclone Thick Bleach is one of the best bleaching detergents we have today in the market. It is highly perfumed, thickened bleach with added detergent. It is a clear yellow/ green viscous liquid with a floral odor and has a shelf life of one year. Its thickness is meant to provide longer contact time for superior cleaning and disinfecting. Specifically formulated for cleaning and disinfecting washable hard surfaces, soaking cloths and mops, washrooms, toilets and kitchens; Cyclone Thick Bleach kills a wide range of bacteria in a single operation. For one to understand that this is no hook, line, and sinker from just another random, dishonest, marketing strategy; let’s break it down.
What is the composition of Evans Cyclone Thick Bleach? Bleaching detergents are widely classified as either chlorine based bleach or peroxide based bleach. Evans Cyclone Thick Bleach is chlorine based bleaching detergent containing a blend of sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, viscosity stabilizers, anionic surfactant & perfume.
- i) Sodium hypochlorite
Sodium hypochlorite is a chemical compound with the formula NaClO. When dissolved in water it is commonly known as bleach. Sodium hypochlorite has deodorizing and stain removal properties. When diluted in water it is also known to show a wide range of anti-microbial activity suitably making it a disinfectant. These properties make Sodium hypochlorite the primary ingredient in Cyclone Thick Bleach.
- ii) Sodium hydroxide
Sodium hydroxide is chemically denoted as NaOH. It is also known as lye or caustic soda. Sodium hydroxide is soluble in water, ethanol, and methanol. Sodium hydroxide is widely used in many industries as a chemical base in the manufacture of soaps and detergents, textiles, paper and as a drain cleaner. When mixed with water, Sodium hydroxide has the soapy feel to the skin. It is frequently used as an industrial cleaning agent due to its ability to dissolve protein-based deposits.
iii) Viscosity stabilizers
Sodium hypochlorite is unstable. It starts decomposing immediately. With proper care, the rate of decomposition can be reduced such that relatively stable solutions can be prepared. The stability and shelf life of a hypochlorite solution depends on five major factors:
ü Hypochlorite concentration.
ü PH of the solution.
ü Temperature of the solution.
ü Concentration of certain impurities which catalyze decomposition.
ü Exposure to light.
- iv) Anionic surfactant
Surfactants are compounds that lower the surface tension between two liquids or between a liquid and a solid. Surfactants may act as detergents, wetting agents, foaming agents, and dispersants. This enables a harmonious co-existence of the various Cyclone Thick Bleach components.
- v) Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils or aroma compounds used to give Cyclone Thick Bleach a pleasant floral scent.
Evans Cyclone Thick Bleach successfully passed European Standard test methods EN 1276; performed in the UKAS accredited Microbiology Laboratory (Testing No. 1108) of Evans Vanodine International Plc. . Bactericidal or antimicrobial products such as disinfectants and antiseptics are used in industrial, domestic and institutional areas.
EN 1276 uses four reference bacteria:
- Enterococcus hirae which is the micro- organism that causes urinary tract infections.
- Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the bacteria responsible for food poisoning.
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that prompts wound and burn infections; and
- Staphylococcus aureus has which causes skin, bone and wound infections.
These four bacteria are representatives of the main bacterial types. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is considered to be one of the most resistant bacteria to disinfectants and therefore the effective dilutions against this bacterium are normally used to determine recommended in-use dilutions.
